Nokia updates Maps data for Windows Phone, Symbian, Meego and Asha

Nokia has updated their mapping database for Nokia Drive on Windows Phone 7, Symbian, Meego and Asha platform. The update brings more details and improved map features along with broader coverage to the service.

You can update your Maps data for most of your devices through the Nokia Suite for Windows. On your Symbian device select the 'check for updates' button on Map loader menu of Nokia Maps app. On MeeGo device got to Maps Application > ManageMaps > Check for updates.

The Wazapp for Meego app is an unofficial WhatsApp client for Meego devices like the Nokia N9 and it has been updated to 0.9.20 (nightly 23). The newest version brings a few bug fixes and improvements

Nokia Maps updated with new map data (0.2.49.104) for Symbian and Meego

Nokia Maps for SymbianNokia Maps is now receiving an update for its Map Data (0.2.49.104) for the Symbian and Meego smartphone platforms. Updating your maps data will give you better accuracy when you navigate through the best places in any neighborhood and makes it easier to find the smartest way to get there.

If you have a Symbian smartphone like the Nokia 808 PureView you can head over to the Nokia Maps app and select the Update option from your main menu.

Sailfish OS demonstrated on Nokia N950


Jolla recently unveiled their Meego based Sailfish OS during the Slush event in Finland. We also got a short demonstration of the Sailfish operating system in action. Sailfish is the outcome of continuous development on the Meego platform which Nokia discontinued in favor of Windows Phone.

Pastilli Labs has now released Situations utility app for the Meego platform. Situations is an intelligent app that automatically senses the situation you are in and adapts your device to it according to your predefined preferences. You can define only one item or you can define them all. Also you can have multiple entries of each (e.g. different accessories).

Jolla reveals their Meego based Sailfish OS

We knew this day was coming and its finally here. Jolla has revealed their Meego powered Sailfish OS to the world for the first time. The new mobile operating system will be open-sourced and will be available to use on various devices including smartphones, tablets and smart TVs.

While the company hasn't detailed too much about their new operating system, they have provided a short video demonstrating the key features of the platform. One of the features is the operating system's seamless true multi-tasking between apps and the ability to interact with the running apps directly from your device homescreen.

Jolla's Meego-based Sailfish OS coming on November 21

The Finish mobile start-up company Jolla has just announced that the will unveil their Meego based Sailfish mobile OS on November 21, at the Slush start-up conference in Helsinki, Finland.

Jolla has been working hard to ready the Sailfish OS. After raising $259 million toward the development of their platform, they have even founded a new Sailfish software alliance to help move the development of the OS forward. Jolla devices running Sailfish will have its own Jolla UI in order to offer potential users a unique experience.

First Meego phone from Jolla Mobile coming next month

A couple of days ago we reported that Jolla Mobile was in the process of completing their first Meego powered mobile device. A new report suggests that the smartphone will be ready to launch next month.  There is not much known about this device, only that it will be running an OS code-named 'Sailfish'.

Jolla Mobile readying their first Meego handset

The last we heard from Jolla, they were busy building their first Meego smartphone. Now they are back with information about the device and the said device is expected to be released by the end of this year.

Jolla Mobile was created by ex-Nokia employees who were previously part of Nokia's Meego plans. After Nokia discontinued its efforts with Meego the team re-branded themselves as Jolla and decided to bring Meego back under new management.

The Nokia N9 successor, Nokia Lauta (RM-742) prototype leaked


Before Windows Phone, Nokia invested heavily on a future with Meego and today we get a glimpse of what could have been. The leaked device codenamed Lauta is said to have been the “immediate successor” to the Nokia N9.

The device which greatly resembles the Nokia N950 is said to have mostly identical hardware to the Nokia N9 with the keyboard being the only differentiator.

Jolla Ltd. will develop MeeGo smartphones in future ?

Almost every Nokia fan will know of Meego, and Nokia's failed attempt  to bring it to the mainstream. The Linux based operating system coupled with the hardware of the Nokia N9 made the combination highly desirable, but it failed to pick off because of Nokia's commitment to the Windows Phone platform.

But this may not be the last we will see of Meego. A Finnish startup company called Jolla Ltd. will develop smartphones running Meego. Whats more important is that the team at Jolla are made up of the core staff behind the design of the Nokia N9.

Nokia N9 receives Meego PR1.3 update in some regions as update rolls out


Nokia has now started rolling out the Meego 1.3 update for the . The update is already available in certain locations and should appear in more locations in the coming weeks.

The update is 204.8MB in size and will update your software to version 40.2012.21-3.001.19.

Firefox on Nokia N9 will have Adobe Flash support

But now thanks to the development of a Flash plugin for the Meego version of Firefox, users can also enjoy Flash on their devices.


However Flash support will not be extended to the default browser or for third party software like Opera Mobile.

Meego PR1.3 update coming for the Nokia N9 in June ?

The may have been the only Meego handset that that the company released, but it has been doing quite well due to its innovative design and easy to use operating system. It looks like Nokia is not just ready to give up on the device as reports suggest that the Meego PR 1.3 update may be available for the device soon.

Nokia N9 receives PR 1.2 software update

Nokia has released the official firmware update for the Nokia N9 about a month after it was seeded to developers for testing. The update is 248 MB in size and is reported to take up to 40 minutes to install according to Nokia.

The front facing camera on the Nokia N9 is now usable with Meego 1.2 and you can now organize your apps into folders in the app launcher. The update also brings improvements to the camera and gallery app along with the copy/paste functionality.
