Jolla achieves its crowdfunding goal in less than a day, aims to launch Sailfish tablet next year

Yesterday, the Jolla tablet was officially announced as the company's first tablet. Just like the Jolla Smartphone before it, the tablet runs Sailfish OS. However Jolla took a different approach with the tablet aiming to raise $380,000 in 21 days through crowdfunding. It turns out the company managed to reach its goal in just a couple of hours

Jolla recently revealed that they had something big planned this week. It turns out the company was planning their own tablet - which features a compact design, decent hardware and a reasonable price tag. It is known simply as the Jolla Tablet and runs the Sailfish operating system, which also powered the company's Jolla Smartphone, released about a year ago.

Finish smartphone manufacturer Jolla, has only one handset currently in the market - the Jolla Phone, which was released in November 2013. Now the company has announced that "Something BIG is about to begin" on their website, indicating that they may have a new device to unveil.

Jolla releases Uitukka (opt-in) update for Sailfish OS

The Jolla team has released Update 9 code-named “Uitukka” to its Sailfish powered smartphones. The latest release brings version1.1.0.38 of Sailfish OS and is an opt-in release. This means you won't get the usual notifications unless you willingly sign up to receive this OS update.

Finish smartphone manufacturer Jolla, has announced the upcoming availability of the Sailfish OS-based Jolla Phone in Hong Kong. The handset is being offered through Three Hong Kong, and is available for free with a 4G LTE Super Plan or for HK$2,888 ($21.7) if you are purchasing it outright.

Jolla Smartphone - Video Review


Jolla is a Finnish company run by former Nokia employees, which launched its first smartphone in late 2013. What's unique about the Jolla smartphone is that it is powered by Sailfish OS – a new platform based on the now-forgotten MeeGo operating system. The software is capable of running Android apps and it its user interface relies heavily on gesture-based user interaction.

Jolla's Sailfish OS ported to Nexus 4

Sailfish OSJolla's Sailfish operating system has been ported to the Google Nexus 4. The entire installation process takes around 2 to 3 minutes. The video only shows the initial set up of the phone. The video also shows that the installation was done using ROM manager and the device is running Cyanogen Mod 10.1.3.

Jolla also reported that they plan to support several Android devices this year including the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7

Jolla's Sailfish OS now compatible with Android hardware and apps

The Finnish based company Jolla is known for spinning off Meego into Sailfish OS. Today they have announced a major milestone in the development of their platform by achieving compatibility with both Android apps and hardware used to power Google's mobile operating system.

What exactly does this mean for Sailfish OS? Well with Android's popularity in the app department, Sailfish will come with a distinct advantage over other new platforms - an established app ecosystem. As a customer we are potentially looking at Nokia quality devices with apps and specs only seen on Android devices. Something which Nokia fans could consider a dream come true.

Jolla Sailfish OS - Software Demo

Sailfish LogoJolla recently released the Sailfish OS SDK for Linux users. As you may already know, Sailfish is a spinoff of Meego, which Nokia discontinued in favor of Windows Phone. Even Jolla, the company behind the new operating system is made up of former employees who worked on the first Meego devices, so we can be assured that Jolla will bring the high quality we saw in the Nokia N9 to their new devices.

Now we get to see how the platform performs in a couple of video demonstrations of Sailfish OS at the company’s MWC event.

Jolla Sailfish SDK Alpha released


We know that Finnish startup company Jolla has been working to give new life to the Meego platform in the form of their Sailfish OS. They have now released the first alpha version of Sailfish SDK so developers can get their hands on the platform and learn how to build apps for it. The SDK is currently only available to Linux users. Windows and Mac OS versions are expected to be released  shortly.

Jolla recently unveiled their Meego based Sailfish OS during the Slush event in Finland. We also got a short demonstration of the Sailfish operating system in action. Sailfish is the outcome of continuous development on the Meego platform which Nokia discontinued in favor of Windows Phone.

Jolla recently gave us the fist glimpse of their Meego based Sailfish OS, which promises to pickup where Nokia left off with Meego. The innovative new interface has been created with the most recent consumer needs in mind. It features great personalization and effortless multitasking. Users can easily switch between running applications or head directly to their home-screen.

Jolla reveals their Meego based Sailfish OS

We knew this day was coming and its finally here. Jolla has revealed their Meego powered Sailfish OS to the world for the first time. The new mobile operating system will be open-sourced and will be available to use on various devices including smartphones, tablets and smart TVs.

While the company hasn't detailed too much about their new operating system, they have provided a short video demonstrating the key features of the platform. One of the features is the operating system's seamless true multi-tasking between apps and the ability to interact with the running apps directly from your device homescreen.
