Now, more and more vehicles are embedding mobile interface functionality as part of environmental and entertainment controls. Those interfaces are hooks into how we conduct our daily lives, from driving to work, to taking the kids to school, or driving to pick up a hot date. Microsoft clearly wants to be a part of this.

Alongside the Nokia Lumia 930, Stephen Elop also announced the Nokia Lumia 630 and the Nokia Lumia 635 during Microsoft's BUILD 2014 keynote. This pair of affordable Windows Phone 8.1 devices, aim to follow in the footsteps of the  Lumia 521 and Lumia 520, by bringing “an uncompromised Microsoft experience and Lumia experience at low price points”.

Today Stephen Elop, Nokia's CEO announced the newest flagship device to Nokia's Lumia portfolio during the BUILD 2014 keynote - The Nokia Lumia 930 with Windows Phone 8.1. The handset is visually and internally similar to the Nokia Lumia Icon, with a 5 inch full 1080p HD display, a 20MP PureView camera and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.

Microsoft has been clear since the announcement of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 that its plan for the platform was in convergence. It started out by making sure that all of its mobile and desktop platforms were transitioned to the same kernel, and with today's announcement of Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1 offer universal Windows app development, which should have huge implications for the Windows ecosystem.

Bing Food & Drink debuts with Windows 8.1

Microsoft demonstrated Bing Food & Drink on Windows 8.1 during the BUILD keynote and you can try it out yourself if you download the Windows 8.1 Preview. This Modern app has been built with the amature chef in mind and allows you to store your recipes, manage your shopping list, organize your meal plans and more.

Microsoft has officially unveiled Windows 8.1 during the build 2013 keynote, which brings several new features and improvements to their Windows 8 desktop platform. The final version of Windows 8.1 will be released later this year as a free update to all Windows 8 users, but is currently available as a preview version for testing and evaluation.

Among the new features, Windows 8.1 brings support for high-res screens and the return of the Start button. You also get a brand new search interface and an improved user interface.

The Microsoft BUILD 2013 conference it taking place in San Francisco and even if you are not attending you can still follow the proceeding of the event as it happens. Microsoft will be streaming the event live and all you will need is a computer or mobile device capable of playing a Silverlight video.

The event will kick off at 9.00 AM PDT and promises to give us a closer look at the upcoming Windows 8.1 update.

Nokia Lumia 920 Developer Edition, exclusive to developers supports most carriers

Developers who attended Microsoft's BUILD 2012 were presented with an exclusive Nokia Lumia 920 Developer Edition handset. Nokia refers to it as a one of a kind device that “they will never make again” as it features the ability to connect to a number of different carriers around the world.

Just like the regular Nokia Lumia 920 the device will feature the same 4.5 inch HD touch display, up to 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel PureView camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. However it wasn't made available in multiple colors and is only available in Black.

BUILD attendees receive Windows 8 tablets

It is a regular practice that attendees of developer conferences get some perks, and it is no different at Microsoft Conferences. The recently held BUILD conference got more than just the preview version of Windows 8. They also received a Windows 8 tablet from Samsung.

It is no doubt that any successful platform requires a devoted developer community. Microsoft acknowledges the attending developers by giving away 5000 tablets running the Developer Preview of Windows 8. Microsoft is hoping of course that the outcome of the Samsung Tablet will be innovative new apps for their platform.
