Apple iOS 8.2 beta released to developers

Apple iOS 8Apple has released iOS 8.2 beta 1, just a day after releasing the iOS 8.1.1 update to the public. The newest beta is clearly focused on the Apple Watch, which is set to be released in early 2015.

According to the release notes, iOS 8.2 is strictly focused towards developers so they get their apps ready for Apple Watch, so they work in their other iOS counterparts. Besides the relevant APIs for developers, the newest version of iOS doesn't seem to bring any new features for consumers.

[Android app] Nokia HERE Maps (build 220) beta includes Android 5.0 Lollipop support


Nokia HERE Maps for Android beta has been updated build 220 which includes support for Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update also brings a few bug fixes, and under-the-hood enhancements which should ultimately make HERE "a more stable travel companion."

Apple iOS 8.1.1 beta released to developers; promises to make the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 faster

Apple iOS 8Apple is currently seeding out iOS 8.1.1 beta to registered iOS developers. According to the release notes, the update includes "increased stability and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s." Both these devices are currently the entry level into iOS 8, and have faced performance issues since the release of iOS 7.0 last year.

[Windows Phone app] BBM (beta) updated; public launch coming soon

BBM for Windows PhoneBBM for Windows Phone (beta) has been updated to version 1.2.0.9 with improved perofrmance. According to the changelog, the major issue addressed by the update is "the slow initial launch time on a fresh install". With this release BlackBerry also says it is close to the public launch of BBM on Microsoft's mobile platform.

HERE by NokiaHere Maps has been an exclusive on Windows Phones for quite some time now. But following Microsoft's purchase of Nokia's smartphone business, the company has shifted its focus to other mobile platforms. Today, Nokia officially released the HERE app beta, compatible with all Android 4.1 or higher smartphones.

Apple Mac OS X (10.10) Yosemite Gold Master (GM) 3 released

Apple Mac OS X (10.10) YosemiteApple is rolling out the third Golden Master (GM) Candidate of OS X 10.10 Yosemite, which is expected to launch later this month, following Apple upcoming media event. At this stage, Apple isn't adding any major features or changes to Yosemite, rather refining the software and making it ready for the end user.

Given that the Golden Master is usually the final build before an update is released to the public, we don't usually get a GM2 unless there are significant changes. However this doesn't seem to be the case with the OS X Yosemite GM2.

Apple iOS 8Apple has released its second beta of iOS 8.1 to developers, just a week after the first beta was released for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Apple's beta 2,has the 12B407 build number, contains bug fixes and improvements according to the release notes. However the 56.8MB size of the OTA update indicates that the update may include a little more than Apple is willing to reveal at this time.

There’s no official change log, so it isn't entirely clear what we can expect from this update. However, we can expect it to bring various bug fixes to iOS 8.0 along with a few new features to the platform.

Apple iOS 8.0Apple has released the Golden Master GM release of iOS 8 to supported iOS devices, including the iPhone 4s and newer, iPad 2 and newer along with the fifth generation iPod Touch. iOS 8 GM is likely is the final developer build of the update before it is released to the public on September 17.

[Android app] HTC Zoe (beta) now available for non-HTC devices

HTC Zoe for AndroidHTC has released its multimedia app Zoe in beta form on the Google Play Store, allowing any Android user to download and try it out. Zoe is being developed and released by HTC Creative Labs, which is the manufacturer's software branch. The same team is also working on bring HTC's BlinkFeed launcher to other Android devices.
