Apple iOS 8.1.1 now available for download

Earlier this month, Apple released iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers, which promised "increased stability and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s" among other improvements and bug fixes. Now Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 to all compatible iOS devices.

The Apple iPhone 4S and the Apple iPad 2 are the oldest devices to support iOS 8.0, so it makes sense that they wont perform with the same vigor as the newer smartphones and tablets. However Apple has decided that they would address these performance issues with the latest version of iOS, likely hoping to have more uses upgrade to the latest version of their platform.

Besides bringing performance improvements to the older iOS devices, the update also reportedly fixes various issues to the platform itself. Apple released several new features with iOS 8.0, so its not uncommon for a few bugs to have slipped past the team. While Apple patched many iOS 8 issues when they released iOS 8.1, there were still a few more that needed their attention.

One of the bugs addressed on iOS 8.1.1 is with iCloud Drive, which had issues syncing files. Apple has addressed this along with an issue with iWork on iOS. Apple has also paid attention to their newer iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which had some battery issues since launch. Overall we think iOS 8.1.1 is a very comprehensive update and is worth updating if you want to get the maximum out of your iOS device.

The update is being pushed out OTA (over-the-air) and users should receive a notification when directly on their devices or when they are connected to iTunes. You can also manually check for the update by heading to Settings > General > Software Update.
