Microsoft only recently unveiled the Lumia Denim update, which is still in the process of making its way across Microsoft's (Nokia's) device lineup. Now rumors and reports suggest that Microsoft is already working on its next update for its Windows Phones codenamed Lumia Emerald.
Lumia Emerald will seemingly accompany Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 (GDR2) and some screenshots have surfaced confirming the name and revealing some details regarding the update.
While the Lumia Denim update brought some enhancements to the device camera and Cortana, the Lumia Emerald update is rumored to bring the following new features and improvements:
- Mobile Data on/off toggle in the Action Center (finally?)
- Support for Snapdragon 805
- Support for 2K resolution
- Cortana alpha version available in more regions
- Settings menu to be ordered alphabetically (finally x2) and to probably have a search option
Keep in mind that the Lumia Emerald update is specific to Microsoft's devices, while the rest of the Windows Phone family should receive the update simply as GDR2. Back in September, some speculated that GDR 2 will be rolling out around November, but seeing as the Developer Preview hasn't rolled out yet, we expect the "Emerald" update may go live for regular users after the holiday season.
