Google has released an updated version (3.3) of Google Play Newsstand for Android which brings the Material Design interface in preparation for the imminent launch of the Android L release. The Google Play Newsstand was released nearly a year ago when Google combined Magazines and Currents into a single app.

The updated Google Play Newsstand is being rolled out in stages to the Play Store, so you may not see it appear immediately. In this case you could consider manually downloading and installing the APK file.

The updated Newsstand offers larger images, more contextual headers and smoother transitions. Users are also able to swipe horizontally between topics, as well as vertically to get more info on a particular topic. When you view a magazine on a tablet, each page of the magazine has become its own card, and on a phone there are text descriptions of each feature, so you can easily scroll through an entire publication and find what you want.
