[BlackBerry app] BBM updated with easier photo sharing, voice calling and more

BBM for BlackBerryBlackBerry Messenger (BBM) has been updated (10.4.4.8) for the BlackBerry platform with a more more streamlined attachment sharing that makes it easier to share files such as photos and documents between users. Audio calling has also been added. This brings the cross-platform messenger app in line with other competitors in the field such as Whatsapp and Viber.

You can download the update directly on your device through BlackBerry World or by using the following link:

Requirements BB 10.0.0 or higher

Open BlackBerry World on your device. Do one of the following:
  • On a device running BlackBerry Device software 7.1 or older, press the Menu key. Click Scan a Barcode.
  • On a BlackBerry 10 device, swipe down from the top of the screen. Click Scan a Barcode.
  • BlackBerry App World will instantly find the app you've selected.

BBM uses BlackBerry's private secure network and it was quite a hit when BlackBerry phones ruled the corporate world. Users would exchange unique personal numbers called PINs, thus connecting them to each other, and be able to communicate securely. However, as BlackBerry's fortunes diminished, BBM user share has diminished as well. BlackBerry hopes this update as well as BBM's relatively new cross-platform nature will bring users back to its service.
