Samsung has released the Galaxy S5 Developer Edition, which comes with an unlocked bootloader out of the box. The device is offered off-contract and will cost you $599.99, just like the regular model. Unfortunately the model is only available in the US through Verizon. It is not known if Samsung plans to release the Developer Edition in the US through other carriers.
Other than for the unlocked bootloader, the Developer Edition is just like the regular Samsung Galaxy S5. It comes with a 5.1 inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 16MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera a 2800 mAh battery, and a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. You also get the fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and the water resistant body from the regular model.
The Galaxy S5 Developer Edition can be purchased online through Samsung's website, where the purchase price includes free shipping. Only the black version of the device is available. Verizon doesn't seem to offer the smartphone via its own website, and there is no word if it’s going to do it at a later date.
