Viber for iOS has been updated to version 4.2 which brings a overhauled redesign to the popular messaging app which was recently purchased by Rakuten. The newly flattened user interface finally allows the app to blend in with the visual elements of iOS 7, which was released in September 2013.
You can download the update directly on your iOS device through the Apple App Store or by using the following link:
Other than the visual changes, the Viber for iOS version 4.2 update also brings other new features and improvements:
- You can now send multiple photos and videos at the same time
- Block list - Allows you to block any number or contact. This feature is already available for Android users.
- You can now send longer video messages. Previously the videos were limited to 10MB, but its not clear what the current restriction is and if there is one.
- Bug fixes
Viber has a user base of roughly 100 million, compared to the 500 million active users on one of its most prominent rivals, WhatsApp. Its great to see Viber is stepping up with its updates under its new leadership, but it has a long way to go if it plans to close the gap with WhatsApp.
"This is the first time we are introducing a new look and feel for Viber. Our goal was to create a simple and friendly interface but at the same time establish a solid foundation for future updates," revealed Viber CEO Talmon Marco.
