YotaPhone 2 with dual-displays announced at MWC

YotaPhone 2

Yota Devices, the Russian company which introduced the dual display YotaPhone last year, have introduced its successor at the Mobile World Congress, in the form of the YotaPhone 2.

The YotaPhone was a great concept, which used a e-Ink display on its rear side instead of the usual plastic cover. Unfortunately the device was lacking in specs and the rear display was not touch enabled, which limited its functionality. Now the manufacturers have fixed a lot of the issues with the introduction of their second-generation YotaPhone.

Firstly the rear display is a 4.7 inch full touch enabled e-ink display with a 540 by 960 pixel resolution, which is beautifully curved to fit the seamless design of the phone.
“Now you can not only get the information you need and see it but you can interact with one touch, and you can respond to messages. Or email. Or you can accept a meeting invitation. The whole user experience with the backside of the phone becomes much better – this is full touch so you can swipe, you can up and down, it’s basically much more intuitive,” Yota Device CEO Vladislav Martynov said.
Because of the low power usage of this display, you can squeeze out between 58 and 68 hours, which is nearly three full days of usage on this device, if you only use the rear panel.

The rest of the device is also impressive, with a 5 inch full 1080p HD AMOLED display in front, an 8 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front camera, 32GB of internal storage, 4G LTE connectivity and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM.

While the price of the YotaPhone 2 was not revealed, the CEO did say that it will be priced 10 - 15% lower than devices of its class at the time of launch. The company is also taking care of first gen YotaPhone owners,  by giving them a big discount if they trade in their old device.

Best of all, Yota Devices is aiming for an international roll-out this time and it will try and bring the YotaPhone 2 to the United States and China. Additional 20 markets in the EMEA region will get it by the end of 2014.
