Sprint has introduced Wi-Fi calling, which allows customers using select Android devices to make calls over Wi-Fi instead of using their voice minutes. With Wi-Fi calling, users can make unlimited calls as long as they are connected to a Wi-Fi network. Sprint is not the first carrier to offer this, T-Mobile has offered the service since May 2011.
Unfortunately the Wi-Fi calling feature is currently limited to the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. These are definitely not the top smartphones on Sprint's network, so it looks like the carrier plans to test the Wi-Fi calling feature with a smaller user base before a wider availability.
Keep in mind that Sprint's Wi-Fi calling feature is only available to make local calls and texts. You will still have to pay a fee for international calls. If you don't have either phone, don't worry. Sprint says it will add additional Android models throughout this year.
