Microsoft is sending out firmware updates for the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, as part of the February 2014 Patch Tuesday. The update for Surface Pro 2 addresses various concerns while the update for the Surface 2 simply addresses networking and Bluetooth-related issues.
The firmware update includes the 'Surface Display Panel' (v1.0.2.0), which provides tuning to the Surface display calibration. You calso get an updated 'Surface Pro Embedded Controller Firmware' (v24.00.50), which fixes an issue where the device would not go into hibernation and where battery percentage was reported incorrectly.
The firmware update also contains 'Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware' (v2.04.0150) which fixes an issue where the device would reset upon repeated Surface Cover attach or detach, fixes an issue where the On Screen Keyboard would unexpectedly pop-up even though the Cover is attached, and fixes an issue where the Cover is not detected after waking from sleep.
The Surface Pro 2 firmware update also features 'Surface Touch Cover 2 Firmware Update Device (v2.0.228.0)' and 'Surface Type Cover 2 Firmware Update Device (v2.0.226.0)' to improve two-finger touchpad use.
The Surface 2 update on the other hand, updates the 'Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter' (v14.62.28058.10171). This update also improves the Bluetooth audio related issues as well as issues related to Bluetooth keyboard and mouse unavailability when waking the device. This update additionally resolves wireless network connectivity issues.
While the first-generation Surface RT did not receive any firmware updates today. The first-generation Surface Pro, received an update that fixed an issue with the device resetting when waking from sleep, resetting upon repeated Surface Cover attach or detach, fixed an issue where the On Screen Keyboard would unexpectedly pop-up even though Surface Cover is attached, and fixed an issue where the Surface Cover is not detected after waking from sleep. The update also includes 'Surface Pro UEFI' (v1.6.50), which improves experience when using a Surface Cover on your Surface Pro.
