Microsoft send out confidential invites to Windows Phone 8.1 SDK Developer Preview

Windows Phone 8.1The Windows Phone 8.1 (a.k.a. Windows Phone Blue) is coming soon soon and it will likely be announced at the Microsoft //Build/ developer conference on April 2nd. With a big update like Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft will want to make sure it is in great shape before it is released to the public, and developers get early access to the SDK (software developer kit) so that their apps can be ready in time for the launch.

Microsoft is following that prudent path and has sent a limited number of invitations to developers to perform testing on Windows Phone 8.1. Those chosen few have had to sign an non-disclosure agreement.

With this preview, developers can learn how to leverage all the newest features of the operating system. The NDA is supposed to keep developers from revealing in detail what is in store with the new operating system. That NDA is also meant to prevent developers from acknowledging the program or whether they are participating in it.

Since the information has already leaked out, we can assume that developers will have their apps fully tested on the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK by April and we should start seeing device updates coming sometime soon.
