[iOS app] SkyDrive updated (4.0) with automatic photo upload and more

SkyDrive for iOSMicrosoft has updated Skydrive for iOS to version 4.0 and included automatic photo uploading, which was an exclusive feature for Windows Phone devices until now. The feature is not enabled by default, but will have to be switched on for an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 6.0 or higher.

You can download the update directly on your device through the Apple App Store or by using the following link:

It is important to keep in mind that all existing camera photos will be uploaded to your SkyDrive once you switch on the auto upload feature. So unless you are on an unlimited data connection, its probably best that you restrict the uploads to Wi-Fi only. This is a useful feature for people that may have a whole bunch of stuff on their iCloud storage but do not want to pay for more space. SkyDrive offers 7GB of free space (compared to 5GB for most competitors), and the iOS app can even be configured so that it will resize photos taken, thus maximizing available space.

The SkyDrive for iOS version 4.0 update also has the following new features and improvements:
  • Browse all of your own SkyDrive files and files shared with you.
  • Share files by sending a link by email or by getting a link to copy and paste.
  • Move, delete and rename files, and create new folders.
  • Open your SkyDrive files in other iOS apps, including Office Mobile for iPhone.
  • Quickly access documents you've recently opened.
