This time the Apple iPad Air is ready to match the performance of the quad-core Tegra 4 processor with its 64-bit A7 chip. While Apple's processor is only a dual-core chip it has proven capable against quad-core chipsets in benchmarks.
Apple also dominates in the sheer number of tablet optimized apps in its App Store, while the Windows RT apps on the Windows Store still trail far behind.
Apple also dominates with its design which is thinner and lighter than the Surface 2 though we have to award Microsoft points for its kickstand, microSD expansion and attachable keyboard. The Surface 2 has an upgraded full 1080p HD display which is still less than the Retina display on the iPad Air
The final choice will come down to portability and productivity. If you are looking for something you want to write emails on, use to take notes and with access to Microsoft Office apps like Word, Powerpoint and Excel, look no further than the Surface. On the other hand if you want a tablet to play games, browse the web and stay connected to your social networks, the iPad Air is the best bet.
