HTC One max officially announced

After months of speculations and rumors, the HTC One max is finally official, bringing the beautiful build quality of the HTC One in a phablet form factor and combining it with a fingerprint scanner for good measure.

The HTC One Max specs include a 5.9 inch  (1080p) full HD touch display, up to 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 4 megapixel Ultrapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary 2 megapixel camera for video calls, and a 1.7GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.

The HTC One max is clad in an aluminum body with a unibody design similar to its siblings the HTC One and the HTC One mini. The updated design allows you to remove the back cover and add a microSD card for more storage. HTC themselves refer to the One max as a "supersized" handset, which we can accept considering its 164.5 x 82.5 x 10.29 mm dimensions and 217g weight. You also have the excellent BoomSound speakers at the front of the One max, but an interesting addition on the device is the fingerprint scanner, which is located on the rear.

The scanner works somewhat differently than Apple's Touch ID unit, as you have to slide your finger down to unlock the phone instead of just press it against the sensor area. You can also assign three apps to be launched by the scan, each with a different finger.

The device has a 3300 mAh battery which should last you throughout the day. Unfortunately the battery has been sealed into the device despite its removable back cover. However HTC has built an additional Power Flip case with an inbuilt 1200 mAh battery for your HTC One max in case you want even more battery life for your device

The battery inside the case is bendable to some degree, and connects to the HTC One max via the three pogo pins on its back. When your device is in the case, you will have a very generous 4500 mAh battery at your disposal.

Software

On the software side, the HTC One max runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean coupled with the HTC Sense 5.5 user interface. Among the new features we have the ability to turn the BlinkFeed social aggregator on and off, and new functionality to BlinkFeed. Your BlinkFeed is now more social, bringing you feeds from Instagram and Google+. You can also get more content based on topic categories you have added. Additionally, you can download up to 120 articles for offline reading later on, when you don't have Internet access, or don't want to weigh on your data plan.

The Video Highlights option now can be any length you want, making a complete movie out of your amateur footage by adding a soundtrack and custom theme of your choosing.

The 'dual capture mode' feature displays the  photographer’s reactions with a mirror view picture-in-picture. HTC Scribble function allows you to draw on your pics, and Photo Editor feature lets you create GIFs," says HTC about the UltraPixel camera on the One max, leveraging both the huge display that is great for doodling, and the camera.

Availability

The HTC One max is expected to be released globally very soon, while Verizon and Sprint in the U.S. will receive the device in time for the holiday seasons. Will you be getting your hands on the HTC One max?
