Offline viewing coming to YouTube, here are the details

The YouTube for Android all allows your videos to be precached, but requires you to maintain your Internet connection to watch them. Luckily this is about to change as YouTube is planning to bring true offline video viewing in November.

This means you will be able to download the respective videos to your device and watch it at your leisure without requiring an Internet connection. This feature will be available on both Android and iOS platforms.

In an email sent out to its YouTube partners on Thursday, some more details of the plan were revealed. In November, when the feature is ready to start, though an exact date hasn't been given. An update will be offered to the Android and iOS apps for an "add to device" button to be displayed for eligible videos. Saved videos will have to be viewed offline within a 48 hour period. After that time period expires, the videos can be viewed once an internet connection has been established. There will be a new area in your YouTube app which will allow you to watch these videos. Ads will also be saved offline with a particular video, and once a YouTube viewer is re-connected online, view counts will be adjusted to reflect offline views.
However not all videos will be available for offline viewing as the partners will be able to make the decision if they want their videos available offline. However the feature will be enabled by default and video providers who feel uncomfortable with the process can disable it. It is not known if music videos will be a part of this program.

In any case once the update arrives, users can enjoy their favorite YouTube videos during their morning commutes. It is unknown if Google will extend the offline viewing offer to their mobile sites or the Windows Phone platform.
