The Samsung Galaxy S4 for Sprint is now receiving a software update with a few new features and improvements including Samsung's enterprise-focused security system, called Knox. The European variant of the Galaxy S4 started receiving the update last month but did not include Knox with its release.
Despite its delay the Knox suite is now here and users can start using it with their company's BYOD programs. Additionally the update also includes the ability to store your apps on your device SD card and a Smart Pause toggle in the notifications panel.
Even though Google hasn't been a fan of this feature, the ability to save your (sometimes large) apps on your SD card can save you some money from purchasing a variant of the device with more storage which costs more. This is also very useful for Galaxy S4 owners who have most of their internal storage consumed by Samsung's own apps.
The Smart Pause toggle in the notifications panel makes it easier to switch the feature on and off. You also get a new setting to tweak text legibility, a briefing app, and an SPDclient app. Status bar transparency also now works with custom wallpapers.
It has also been reported that the update does bring changes to the bootloader, like the Secure Boot Image which has been added to use with Knox. However the bootloader itself still inst locked and can be easily rooted if required.
If you are a Sprint Galaxy S4 owner, you can expect the 376MB update on your unit at any time. Ensure your battery is charged once you receive the update notification and stay connected to Wi-Fi if you want to avoid unnecessary data charges. If you haven't received the notification or have missed it, you can manually initiate the update under Settings.
