OUR REVIEW

After testing PressReader on Android and iOS we can confidently say that we liked the Windows version the best. While the Android version seems to be inspired by the iOS version, the Windows version is in a class of its own with a beautiful layout and easy to access features inspired by the modern UI.

You can select between Sources, My Library and Favorites and your content is sorted by Today, Week, Month and Older. The free version comes with seven free newspapers allowing you to select and download your favorite content. The app seems to automatically show content based on your location, but you can tap sources on the top left and choose the list of 97 countries in 55 languages to download your favorite newspapers or magazines.

You can get access to the Premium services with a subscription. Once you have subscribed, swipe from the right click Settings > Account and sign into your Press Display account. You can even create a new account and initiate a subscription from here.

Once your favorite newspaper has been downloaded you can either have the app read it out to you or read it by swiping through the pages. The interface supports tap to zoom and pinch to zoom and you can press the page to access the toolbar. If you are using a mouse you can make use of the + and - buttons which appear on the lower right to zoom.

Right clicking or swiping from down reveals the options for the newspaper. You can jump to your favorite section, align the content to suite your orientation or switch between Replica or Text. Replica is the regular newspaper view while Text offers the content in a feed like view for easier access. You can select the content in the feed for a cleaner, more tablet friendly view.

We tested PressReader on a regular Windows 8 PC and the app seems fluid and easy to use. In fact the Windows 8 experience was much better than our experience on the iOS and Android versions. We are curious to hear if Windows RT users who have tried the app have had the same experience on their tablets.
