[Guide] How to flash your Nokia Lumia 920


The is the premium smartphone which runs Windows Phone 8. The device features a 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ touch display, up to 32GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel PureView camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

The device is available in the U.S. through AT&T and in Canada through Rogers and was recently promised its first update alongside its younger sibling the . Meanwhile users around the world will have to wait for the update to arrive on their device, though Nokia promises it won't be long.

Carriers at times place various restrictions on their networks and there are times certain carrier devices maybe the last to get updates. To help you get past such a situation, we have put together a step-by-step guide on how you can flash your Nokia Lumia 920.

[NOTE] Please do not proceed with this guide unless you have advanced knowledge of Navifirm and have had previous experience with updating your device using unofficial methods.

[NOTE] Issues that can occur on your from following this guide will not be covered by your Nokia Warranty. Please know that you may void your device warranty if you proceed.

[NOTE] Make sure that your device battery is fully charged before you proceed. If your battery fails during the flashing process your device maybe permanently bricked.

[NOTE] Make sure that your device is not connected to the computer until we ask you to in the guide

[NOTE] Your device will be wiped following this process. Make sure that your important data is backed up before you proceed.

Downloading the Firmware File with Navifirm
  1. Download Navifirm Plus and extract its contents to a directory of your choice (no installation needed here)
    -
  2. Open Navifirm, Select your device from the list and choose to download the last firmware file which has been made available for your device. (eg: Lumia 920 – 1232.5951.1249.0001)

  3. Select the appropriate firmware file for your device from the third window and click the download button.

  4. Once the download is complete, head over to \ NaviFirm + 1.7 \ Fw \<product code> and copy the files in that folder.

  5. Now go to C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages and create a new folder and name it Products.

  6. Make a new folder inside it and give it your device model name  (eg: RM-821 for Lumia 920)
Downloading the Firmware File with NCS
  1. Download and install Nokia Care Suite (NCS). Once you have completed the installation go to Drivers folder where you installed NCS (eg: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers) and install the WinUSB drivers for your system.

  2. Start NCS and double click on Product Support Tool For Store.

  3. In the new window which opens click File on the top left and select Open Product.

  4. Type RM-821 to filter your Nokia Lumia 920 or select it from the list. (RM-820 refers to the AT&T model)

  5. Now click Programming and then Recovery.

  6. In the new window which opens you will be able to see the firmware you previously downloaded using Navifirm and copied to C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\RM-821 folder

  7. You can also click Find Online and select a code which corresponds with your device to download the firmware file through NCS.

  8. Now click Download and wait for the firmware file to be downloaded to your computer.

  9. Which ever method you choose, the corresponding firmware files will be listed under Recovery.

  10. Now click Start
Installing the firmware on your device
  1. Connect your device to your computer.
    -
  2. Hold the Volume Down + Power buttons, and click Retry on the Product Support Tools window on your computer.
    -
  3. When the device vibrates, immediately release the Volume Down button and the Power button and hold the Volume Up button instead.
    -
  4. Continue holding the Volume Up button until you see the NOKIA logo. At this point the firmware will be flashed to your device.
[NOTE] If you are installing a different variant, NCS will complain at this point. You can just confirm that message and continue with flashing the firmware file.
