HTC announced a new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone today called the HTC J Butterfly at an event held in Tokyo. Based on the specifications it is likely the device was the rumored HTC Nexus.
The HTC J Butterfly features a 5 inch Super LCD 3 full HD display which gives it a 440ppi pixel density for an amazingly detailed resolution. Its convex glass shape and color reproduction additionally contribute to make it an outstanding display on a device.
The J Butterfly has an 8 megapixel camera with an f/2.0 lens capable of 1080p HD video capture and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro APq8064 processor with 2GB of RAM, all packed into a razor thin 9.1mm frame which is quite impressive. Other features include a 2.1 megapixel front facing camera for video calls, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and 4G LTE connectivity.
One feature which makes us wonder about this device is its 2020mAh battery. We are curious why HTC decided to go with a smaller battery and retain its thin frame instead of giving the ‘phablet’ a capable battery which can help it last longer than a day. Hopefully the device will prove us wrong in the real world.
The bad news is that HTC has not indicated global availability of this device yet and it will be exclusive to the AU/KDDI network in Japan
