Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 8 has been released to manufacturing (RTM). This meansWindows 8 has been finalized and the operating system is now in the hands of OEM manufacturers for integration into upcoming Windows 8 laptops, tablets and computers.
With the final release of Windows 8 expected to arrive in two months on October 26, we don’t have long to wait to get our hands on the latest version of Windows. However if you are a subscriber on MSDN or TechNet you can get your hands on Windows 8 as early as August 15th.
The Microsoft Surface (RT) is also set to debut alongside Windows 8 and we expect several Microsoft partners will have their own Intel and ARM based tablets lined up for public availability.
It will be interesting to see how well Microsoft’s new operating system fairs especially in its tablet form factor against the market leading Apple iPad and the new contender – the budget friendly Google Nexus 7.
