HP releases Open webOS beta


Open webOS 1.0 is expected to be available by September in its final form and it looks like HP is well in track for the release. Today company announced the first beta release of Open webOS.


The beta release comprises of 54 separate webOS components which make up for over 450,000 lines of code under the Apache 2.0 license. There are two build environments which have been released - A desktop environment and an Open embedded build environment which can be installed on your HP TouchPad and potentially be ported "to new and exciting devices.

With the first final release not to far away you may want to stay clear of the beta build until the bugs have been cleaned out. But anyone who is curious and would like to contribute to the development of WebOS can try out the beta build.
