Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 receives Android 4.1 Jelly Bean through AOSP and CyanogenMod 10 ROMs

Since Google released Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) we have seen custom ROMs appear for several devices including the Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC One X and tablets like the Asus Transformer and Amazon Kindle Fire.

Now the is getting is chance at Jelly Bean and there are actually two options to choose from.

One is based on AOSP and the other on CyanogenMod 10. The AOSP ROM gives you a pure Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience while the CyanogenMod adds some modifications to enhance your Jelly Bean experience.

Given that these ROMs haven’t had much development or testing time, don’t expect a fully stable user experience. The AOSP ROM is reportedly more stable on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 compared to the CyanogenMod ROM, but as the developers continue to fine tune their ROMs this is bound to change over time.

If you are interested in trying out these ROMs on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 head over to the following links for step by step instructions and download links.

Remember that installing custom ROMs is not recommended unless you are fully aware of its consequences. Improperly following the guide can result in loss of data or device malfunction.

If you are not confident with installing custom ROMs we recommend holding off until Samsung officially releases Jelly Bean for its devices. Stay tuned to our blog for information on Jelly Bean release dates and which devices will receive Android 4.1
