We know that Google is working on an offline version of their Google Docs suite, but we didn't know the extent of what we can expect from this suite. Today’s news may make things very clear as Google announced that they have acquired QUickoffice – A popular cross platform office suite which supports opening and editing Microsoft Office documents.
Windows Phone / Windows users have Microsoft Office, while iOS / Mac users have the iWork suite. Now with the procurement of Quickoffice Google has the opportunity to provide a comprehensive suite which will far surpass the limitations of the Google Docs.
“Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google Apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device. Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we'll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our Apps product suite.Google Docs offline is rumored to debut in the coming weeks, we are curious to see how Google would price a full office suite given their history on cheap to free pricing on most of their products.
Quickoffice has a strong base of users, and we look forward to supporting them while we work on an even more seamless, intuitive and integrated experience”.
