[Guide] How to Restore Motorola Droid X2 to Android 2.3.4 Factory State



Verizon has started rolling out an update (1.3.418.MB870) for the which brings Android 2.3.5 along with other performance improvements and bug fixes.

The update will disable root access to the device and any user who wants to retain root privileges will have to downgrade to Android 2.3.4 factory state.

The following guide will show you how to downgrade your Motorola Droid X2 from Android 2.3.5 to the Android 2.3.4 Factory state.

NOTE - The following process may require the phone to be fully erased which will result in loss of data. Please perform backups of your data including contacts and messages before your proceed.

NOTE - This process will require a Windows computer to be performed

DISCLAIMER - The process of downgrading and rooting are not directly supported by the manufacturer and can result in loss of data or device malfunction if not performed properly. Please proceed at your own risk.
  1. Download Android 2.3.4 SBF file [MIRROR]
  2. DownloadRSD Lite 5.4.4
  3. Download Motorola Drivers [32bit | 64bit]
  4. Extract all the contents of the downloaded files. To extract the SBF file, you can use 7-zip, which is a free program for Windows.
  5. Install RSD Lite on your computer. You may have to reboot the computer after installation.
  6. Install Motorola drivers on your computer
  7. Power off the Motorola Droid X2.
  8. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down button until you see Fastboot.
  9. Use Volume Down button to navigate to RSD and then press Volume Uponce.
  10. Launch RSD Lite on your computer, click on … and select the SBF file that you extracted using 7-zip.
  11. Connect the Motorola Droid X2 to your computer via USB cable.
  12. Click Start and wait for the process to finish. After the installation is complete, your phone may work normally or may go into boot loop.
If you phone is stuck in the Phone Boot loop use the following steps
  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Boot into the Stock Recovery by pressing and holding Power and Volume Downuntil you see FASTBOOT.
  3. In FASTBOOT press Volume Down key until you see Android Recovery.
  4. In Android Recovery, Press the Volume Up button to see the message Entering Android Recovery.
  5. In a while, you should see a white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark.
  6. Press both Volume Up and the Volume Down button at once and navigate to wipe data/factory reset and select it using the Powerbutton.
  7. After wiping is complete, select Reboot
That’s it. Enjoy the new Factory state Motorola Droid X2 on Android 2.3.4.
