A couple of days ago we reported that Nokia may be cancelling Symbian Carla in favor of directing their resources on Windows Phone. However it turns out this may have been a rumor.
Nokia has clarified that they have no intention of cancelling the Carla update and in fact Carla was just a codename for the Belle Feature Pack 1 update which started rolling out last month for the Nokia 603, Nokia 700 and the Nokia 701. This is the same version of Symbian OS which will run the upcoming Nokia 808 PureView.
The Bell FP1 (Carla) update for Symbian OS will increase the processor speed on the 701 and 700 to 1.3GHz, matching the 808 Pureview while the 603 will remain at 1GHz. The update also promises to bring an improved HTML-5 capable web browser, Microsoft apps, the latest version of Nokia Maps. The devices will also benefit from Dolby Digital Plus audio enhancements.
Bell FP1 also promises to brings improvements to the user interface, multi tasking and the notifications bar along with 20 new widgets.
We apologize for the misinformation and hope that we will continue to see the Symbian updates find their way to Nokia handsets.
