Nokia X7 - Camera Review

The Nokia X7 features a generous 4 inch capacitive touch-screen display with 8GB of internal storage. We had the opportunity to review the X7 recently, and part of that review was to take a closer look at it's 8 megapixel camera.

A camera is an essential part of any smartphone today. You can take photos, tage them, add geo-locations and upload them directly to your favourite social network. You wont even have to connect to a computer any more as smartphones are capable of doing all this themselves.

The Nokia X7 is no exception. lets first take a look at it's camera features.
  • 8 megapixel sensor with a image resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels
  • Fullscreen 16:9 viewfinder with easy on-screen touch controls
  • 3rd generation dual LED flash
  • Face recognition software
  • Full focus
  • Focal length: 4.3 mm
  • F number/aperture: F2.8
  • Zoom up to 2x (digital) for still images
But the camera needs some good software features to complement it's hardware and the X7 has some much welcome features brought to us through Symbian Anna.
  • Automatic location tagging (Geotagging) of images and videos
  • Images automatically taken in the correct orientation
  • Pinch zoom in Photos image viewer
  • View photos by tag cloud, month, album, slide show
  • Photo editor
Despite all the specification we did not have the best experience with the X7 camera. The main issue was the lack of auto-focus. The lack of it is most evident during close up photos. The closer you get the blurrier your photo is.

The Camera itself while probably not the best of it's class does a decent job. In a world where your main objective is share your photos online, you probably wont notice the lack of fine detail or that photos are sometimes too sharp. Check out our samples and decide for yourself.

We didn't expect a whole lot from the X7 in the camera department, but it has been a good experience overall. But if you are looking for the best experience you will still have to look through the Nokia N-Series
