NVidia demonstrates Tegra 3

NVidia demonstrates the Tegra 3 processor which will debut on the Asus Transformer Prime. The next generation mobile CPU from NVidia claims to provide desktop class performance. A total of four ARM Cortex A9 processors which go up to 1.3 GHz manage complex tasks while a fifth companion processor which is under-clocked at 500 MHz takes care of smaller tasks while protecting battery life.

The power management demonstrated on these cores give the users up to 12 hours on tablets like the Transformer Prime. You can take a look at how the processors share work loads in the demonstration video which follows:

NVidia has also updated the mobile GeForce GPU which now has 12 cores compared to the 8 on the Tegra 2, and supports higher resolutions, more realistic effects and elaborate lighting scenarios. It supports 3D stereoscopic imagery which performs 3x better than Tegra 2.

NVidia also compares the Tegra 3 chipset against a competitor in the following clip. Nvidia seams determinded to capture the CPU market with manufactuerers like HTC, Samsung, LG and Motorola all looking to get in on the quad-core bandwagon.
