[Guide] How to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 with GEVEY SIM


You can use this guide if you own an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.x.x and want to upgrade to iOS 5.0 with Gevey unlock. You can unlock your iPhone 4 on iOS 5 with Gevey SIM by following the guide below which will show you how to update to iOS5 while preserving your iPhone 4 baseband.

Gevey SIM is an hardware unlock solution for the iPhone 4 with baseband 01.59.00, 02.10.04, 03.10.01, and 04.10.01 on iOS 4.x.x and iOS 5.0. A SIM interposer sits between the SIM card and the Modem to keep the device unlocked.

If you are on baseband 1.59.00 you may also consider using the Ultrasn0w software unlock.

Requirements

STEP 01 - Preserve your iPhone 4 baseband and update to iOS 5
  1. Run Redsn0w
    • Select Extras and Select Custom IPSW button
    • Browse and select the iOS 4 IPSW file you downloaded before
    • Redsn0w will create a custom IPSW file without updating the baseband
    • Once done it will show you the name and location of the custom IPSW file. 
  2. Enter Pwnd DFU mode
    • Select Extras and Select Pwned DFU button
    • Follow the on screen instruction to but your device in DFU mode
    • Open iTunes and it will tell you that your phone is in recovery mode
  3. Install custom Firmware
    • Hold Shift (Windows) or Alt (Mac) and Select Restore in iTunes
    • Browse and select the custom firmware redsn0w created.

STEP 02 - Jailbreak iOS 5

STEP 03 - Unlock with Gevey SIM
  • Go to Settings > General > Network and Switch off 3G
  • Turn off the device
  • Remove and reinsert the SIM card along with the Gevey SIM and turn on the iPhone
  • When on the device will search for the network and display a message follow these steps
    • Select Accept
    • Wait for 15 seconds
    • Dial 112 and hangup after a couple of seconds. The call need not connect.
  • Go to Settings and Turn Airplane Mode ON
  • After a few seconds 'No SIM Card Installed' message will appear. Select OK.
  • Turn Airplane Mode OFF. Two more messages will appear, (SIM Failure, Invalid SIM Card) Just ignore them and they should disappear.
  • One these messages disappear your signal should be working.
  • If it doesnt work, repeat steps from the start.
NOTE - You will have to repeat the unlock steps on STEP 03 every time you reboot your device.
