Google Galaxy Nexus receives volume bug fix

Some users of the Google Galaxy Nexus have been reporting a volume bug which can cause missed calls and alerts. Reports point towards the issue being caused by inadequate RF shielding in the area around the volume rocker.

While users thought this may result in a hardware recall Samsung has assured that the issue can be fixed through a software patch. The fix which Samsung is currently working on has already leaked online and made available for download.

The leak has been made available through MoDoCo in the form of a ROM.

You can alternately wait for Samsung to release the official patch which shouldnt take too long. Samsung looks to want to take care of any other bugs with the upcoming update and are still testing the new version internally.

The instruction on installing the volume fix for the Galaxy Nexus follows:
  1. Download the zip file and extract it to a directory
  2. Put your device in bootloader mode
    • Turn device off
    • Switch on while holding down volume up + volume down buttons.
    • Your device should now be in bootloader mode.
  3. Depending on your computer OS follow the steps
    • Windows - double click on the 'install-windows.bat' file
    • Mac OS - Open a terminal window in the directry containing the files, type 'chmod +x install-mac.sh' followed by './install-mac.sh'
    • Linux - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-linux.sh' followed by './install-linux.sh'
That's it. The volume bug should now be fixed. All credit to the patch and the guide goes to Paul from MoDoCo
