Some benchmarks posted by Anandtech show the Apple iPhone 4S beat all it's competitors and stand out as the fastest smartphone in both general and graphical performance. Even the top runners like the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Motorola Droid Bionic fell short.
Using the Geekbench app for iOS it has been revealed that the dual-core A5 chip which powers the iPhone 4S has been underclocked to 800 MHz. Despite being underclocked and having half the RAM available on it's competitors the A5 chip on the iPhone 4S outperforms the 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos chip on the Samsung Galaxy S II and the 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 chip on the Droid Bionic.
The benchmarks used to test the iPhone 4S were - SunSpider, BrowserMark and GLBenchMark 2.1.
So if you are among the few you think faster is better, Apple has proven that optimization and unity of hardware and software outperforms clock speeds.
The Graphics chip on the iPhone 4S is as impressive in the tests. A GLBenchmark test shows up to twice the performance of the iPhone's SGX 543MP2 GPU when compared to the Mali 400 GPU on the Galaxy S II which has held the crown for a mobile GPU to date.
