The Kindle Fire features a 7 inch touch display and has 8GB of internal storage. You will have access to all the amazon services which include music, movies, books, TV shows, apps and much more. If you are an Amazon Prime member you will even have unlimited access to instant streaming of movies and TV shows.
The Amazon Silk web browser allows you to browse the internet, and visit your favorite websites.
While the Kindle Fire is built on the Android platform, but the interface looks nothing like a regular Android device. Amazon has made it simple to browse through all your Amazon content by neatly stacking them into categories. You can always download more content from the Amazon's Online Stores.
But the cheap price comes with a few letdowns.
- No cameras - Since the Fire doesn't feature any cameras you wont be able to capture photos or video on this tablet.
- No microphone - You wont be able to use this device for voice or video calls. Applications like Skype wont be of much use on the Fire.
- No Google Apps - Since Amazon's Tablet doesn't use a standard version of Android OS, You wont have access to the Android Market. You will have to rely on the availability of Amazon apps.
- Wi-Fi Only - There wont be a 3G version of this device, so you will be limited to getting to your online content only where there is a Wi-Fi connection present.
Still a $200 dollar price-tag may seam like a steal. But news of the Kindle Fire has seen tablets like the BlackBerry PlayBook and the HTC Flyer prices also drop their prices.
The other thing to consider is the upcoming 10-inch tablet from Amazon, which is due in early 2012. It would be better looking at what Amazon has in mind for their next tablet before investing on the Kindle Fire.
So unless you are a subscribed or regular user of Amazon services or a Kindle user looking to upgrade, You should probably look at the iPad or one of Android's offerings.
