Windows Phone 7 devices receive first software update

A report from the Windows Phone Blog, states that the first Windows Phone 7 update is going to start rolling out today. The bad news is that copy and paste functionality will not be available in this update.

Microsoft did however point out that at the WMC 2011 that the copy and paste update will be available for Windows Phone by March.

What’s in this update?

This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself. So while it might not sound exciting, it’s still important because it’s paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search.

When will I get this update?

We’ll begin sending it out today. But to help ensure the process goes smoothly, it won’t be sent to everyone at once. So you might see an update message before your spouse, co-worker, or neighbor (or vice versa). This is a common industry practice. That said, we understand you’re eager to have the latest software on your phone, and our goal is to deliver it to you as quickly as possible.

To receive this update you need to connect your Windows Phone to your computer using the USB cable and run the Zune software on your PC or Windows Phone 7 Connector if you have a  Mac. Follow the onscreen instructions to continue with the update.

[NOTE] For those who have had their device get bricked after this update go here for information on fixing your Windows Phone device.
