Nokia has released the PR1.1 software update to the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 for users in the US and Canada. The update (1232.5951.1249.0001) brings improved performance, imaging capabilities and battery management to the devices. We have been hearing about this update for some time now under its code-name Portico, but it is also labeled as PR 1.1 which is a familiar form of updating Nokia Lumia handsets.The update will be made available to your device OTA (over-the-air) and you don’t have to connect it to your computer to get the update. You can check for the update by heading over to Settings > Phone Update > Check For Updates and make sure you have your Wi-Fi connection enabled in order to initiate the update.
Make sure that your battery is charged or that you are connected to a power source before you start the update. The entire process can take around 30 minutes to complete. Once the download is complete, select Install and the update will be installed on your device.
Once the update is completed select Done and restart your device. Head over to Settings > About and check if the Software Version has been updated to 1232.5951.1249.0001
The update brings the following new features and improvements to the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Nokia Lumia 920:
- Enhancements in Messaging
- More efficient and reliable Bluetooth connectivity
- More efficient and reliable start-up sequence
- Enhancements in imaging performance and battery management
- Additional platform updates and enhancements
Nokia and Microsoft are working with their partners and carriers to bring the update to international Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 by February 2013.
