HTC Desire EYE officially announced with 13MP front and rear cameras

HTC Desire EYE officially announced

The HTC Desire EYE was officially unveiled today during the company's Double Exposure event in New York. The device sets itself apart by offering a massive 13MP front-facing camera with dual-LED flash, and a matching set up on its rear. With the Desire EYE, HTC hopes that your selfies will look just as impressive as the photos you capture with your rear camera.

While manufacturers continue to focus on offering great rear cameras, the front camera is almost always ignored. So those selfies you take of yourself are usually not as clear or crisp as the scenic shots you capture with your rear camera. This is where the Desire EYE steps in, by offering the exact same 13MP camera it has on its rear in front, so your photos will be of the same high quality no matter which camera you use. The one on the back has an f/2.0 aperture and a 28mm lens, while the one on the front has a wider 20mm lens but a smaller f/2.2 aperture. Both cameras can record 1080p@30fps video.

The much larger than usual front-facing camera is positioned above the screen and it gets a dedicated dual-LED flash and a microphone. It's getting the same treatment as the back camera, which has a dual-LED flash and a microphone too. There's another microphone on the bottom of the device for a total of three mics used for better audio through noise cancellation.

HTC Desire EYE

While the Desire EYE may not have the premium metal body of the HTC One M8, it comes with a decent set of specifications including a 5.2 inch full 1080p HD display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, dual front-facing BoomSound speakers, a 2400mAh battery and a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. The device is also water resistant and sports an IPX7 rating.

The HTC Desire EYE will be an AT&T exclusive at launch, while pricing and further details will be made available soon.
