Panasonic DMC-CM1 announced with flagship camera

Panasonic DMC-CM1

The Panasonic DMC-CM1 has been unveiled by the company as a camera centric Android powered device. In fact the device is extremely capable in the camera department as it is packing the largest sensor found on a smartphone.

The sensor is 1 inch in size, and roughly seven times larger than the average smartphone sensor size, and rivals those of upscale point-and-shoots, like Nikon's 1 series, or Sony RX100. You have 20MP of resolution, which offers plenty of detail, especially since the DMC-CM1 is capable of capturing RAW images.

sensor sizeThe DMC-CM1 camera has Leica lens with wide-angle 28mm equivalent focal length at a maximum f/2.8 aperture. There is a full suite of manual adjustments, too, from several aperture settings, through numerous shutter speeds, to hand-picked ISO settings that range from 100-25,600. As for video, the handset is capable of 4K recording, but nothing is mentioned about the camera having an optically-stabilized sensor, like the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom.

While the focus may be on its camera, the DMC-CM1 is also a capable smartphone. You get a 4.7 inch full 1080p HD display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, 4G LTE connectivity and a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. Best of all, it is just 21mm thick at the lens, while the phone part itself is the bearable 15.2mm (the Galaxy K zoom is 16.6mm). Additionally the Panasonic DMC-CM1 weighs 204g (around the same as the Galaxy K Zoom), which is quite decent for its capabilities.

Unfortunately there are two negatives on this device - It has a 2600mAh battery, which is quite low in today's flagship standards. Also its price is set at EUR 900 (~$1164), with limited initial launch in several countries pegged for some time in November.
