NVidia is rolling out a new update for its SHIELD gaming console starting today. Since SHIELD is already running the latest version of Android, this is a maintenance update, but it is somewhat large (at 460MB), so users should make sure they have access to a Wi-Fi connection to download the update.
The update will be pushed OTA (over-the-air) and you will receive a notification when it is available for your device. SHIELD owners can check for the update by heading to Settings > About Device menu if they have not received the OTA notification.
According to the changelog, there are three main focuses in this update: an Apps2SD bug fix, a bug fix for the bumper button volume function (much easier than using the on-screen virtual volume keys), and better security and speed for the GameStream service.
In order to get GameStream working with your NVIDIA GeForce-equipped gaming PC, make sure you download and install the latest version of GeForce Experience.
