[Windows Phone app] Twitter (beta) reveals deeper integration with Windows Phone 8.1

A beta version of Twitter for Windows Phone has revealed some of the changes headed to the client to support the Windows Phone 8.1 software update. The beta build was circulating as an open beta for a limited time, but was subsequently removed and is no longer available for download through the Store.

Among the improvements, the Twitter for Windows Phone beta allows pictures tweeted by you to be viewed on the Photos Hub. The 'Share to' is back, allowing link sharing with third party apps.

Other features on the open beta include integration with the Me Tile. Post a status update and the Twitter compose screen will appear. And instead of forcing you to wade through all of your past replies to get to your latest mention, when you auto-refresh, you will now see the latest mention first. Of course, the proverbial performance enhancements are also part of the new app.

Whats unfortunate is that the current version of Twitter has some issues with Windows Phone 8. For example the ability to Share to the app has disappeared and it doesn't fully leverage the capabilities of the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.

As the Windows Phone 8.1 update is expected to arrive to Windows Phone 8 users this summer, we wont have long to wait to get the new version of Twitter. Meanwhile those running the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview will have to deal with the current version of Twitter, unless they managed to grab the open beta while it was live.
