Now that the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview has been released to developers, Microsoft is ready to unveil another update that they previewed at BUILD 2014 - a new personalized version of the company's search engine Bing.
One of the top features coming to Windows Phone 8.1 is Cortana, a digital voice assistant powered by Bing with the promise of being more personal than its competitors. Cortana gets personal by tracking your personal preferences like traffic, weather and restaurants based on your location.
Now the updated Bing allows these preferences to be synced across to your web browser allowing a more personalized Bing homepage. Once you have linked Bing to your interests, all your personalized information will appear on Bing allowing you to customize what Bing has access to.
“Starting today, we are unveiling a set of personalized cards on the Bing homepage that will help you keep track of things that matter to you”, says Chen Fang, product manager at Bing.
Customers need to sign into a Microsoft account to make this work. From there, things will begin personalizing based on your activity. “Bing will remember your interests and notify you, as appropriate, across a range of Bing-powered Microsoft services, such as Cortana and the Bing Sports app, for example”, Fang continues.
The update is ready now, so head over to the Bing website and enable it under preferences, then let us know what you think in the comments. Bear in mind that it may take a bit for it to get to know you and customize itself.
