The Sony Xperia Z1S was launched last month as an exclusive to T-Mobile. Just like the Xperia Z1, which has been available internationally since late 2013, it offers a 20.7MP rear camera in a waterproof body. Because the Xperia Z1S offers IP58 certification, it can be taken 5 feet underwater without any issues.
Carol Grant, a photographer from Florida has decided to put this to a test, taking the Xperia Z1S on a snorkelling expedition. The subject of her photos are a family of Florida manatees (sea cows)
Carol says that the Xperia Z1S is "easy to hold while snorkeling" and that "the long battery life is a definite plus." According to Sony, all the images are “completely unedited”, “taken straight from the Xperia Z1S shooting in Intelligent Auto mode.” Check out the samples in the following slideshow.
Obviously, when viewed in full size, the photos lose a lot of detail, and noise is visible in some areas. Still being able to capture photos underwater on your smartphone is really something. You can check out the high resolution samples by heading to the source link below.
