Nexus 4 Android 4.4 KitKat Factory Image now available for download

It looks like Google has just released the Android 4.4 KitKat factory image for Nexus 4, so those who wish to tinker with the files can now download it via developers' website. That's rather unusual considering Google has yet to push the Android 4.4 KitKat OTA (over the air) update to Nexus 4 devices.

For the time being, only Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 Wi-Fi editions received the highly anticipated updates, but Google confirmed the GSM versions along with the Nexus 4 will be upgrade very soon. To that end, the official Android 4.4 KitKat restore images are now available for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (all variants and both years), and Nexus 10. Along for the ride are the proprietary driver binaries, which enable ROM developers to make fully functioning builds for these devices.

Android 4.4 KitKat - Here's all you need to know
Google has officially revealed the new features and improvements that will be available on Android 4.4 KitKat. The new update as promised has been optimised for low-end devices and will run on devices with as low as 512MB of RAM comfortably.

If you're an end user, installation is as simple as downloading the images and executing the flash-all.bat file. Alternatively, you can extract the available archive and flash them piecemeal through fastboot by executing the command fastboot <partition name> <image name and path>. This will enable you to flash without losing data.

It's unclear when exactly the OTA update for Nexus 4 will go live, but we will keep an eye out for this one so stay tuned.

So those who wish to download these as well, should head over to developers' website.

[UPDATE] Due to a high volume of user (developer) downloads, it looks like it may not be able to download the file directly through the developer site
