Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) officially announced

Today Samsung unveiled a refreshed version of their Galaxy Note 10.1 alongside the newest Galaxy Note and the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. While some may be disappointed that the rumored 12.2 inch tablet didn't debut during the event, Samsung is offering Galaxy Note 10.1 buyers an incentive in the form of free content and features.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) shares esthetics with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 including the same faux-leather and stitching look.

The new Galaxy Note 10.1 is quite visually appealing measuring in at 243.1 x 171.4 x 7.9mm and weighing 535g, which is a noticeable improvement over the previous model. Samsung has managed up the battery to 8220mAh compared to the 7000mAh battery from before.

Its 10.1 inch display has been upgraded to a generous 2560 by 1600 pixels compared to the 1280 by 800 pixels on the original Galaxy Note 10.1. This means you now have a pixel density just below 299 ppi. The device has an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera for video calls. Samsung lets you choose between  16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage which you can expand by up to 64GB through microSD. All this is powered by a 1.9GHz Octa Core processor (2.3GHz quad-core in the LTE model) with 3GB of RAM.

The new Note 10.1 will feature the same S Pen and multi-window multitasking improvements from the Galaxy Note 3. You will also have the Samsung KNOX security software protecting you from malware and viruses. The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean customized with the Samsung TouchWiz UX interface. It will hopefully be in the front line for an Android 4.4 KitKat update. Additionally the Note 10.1 2014 users will benefit from exclusive content from sources like Bloomberg, Businessweek, The New York Times, Autodesk Sketchbook and most importantly a redesigned version of the official Twitter app, built especially for 10.1 inch tablets.

Even though the new Galaxy Note 10.1 has been labeled a 2014 edition, it will be available for purchase in October and will be sold in Black and White. You can select between the Wi-Fi only, 3G and LTE models based on your requirements. Five other colors are expected to be released eventually, but specific release dates or pricing has still to be unveiled.
