We have heard that Nokia is working on a Windows RT tablet and we have come across Sirius as a codename for a product that Nokia has been working on. Now they have been tied together to reveal that the Nokia Sirius is in fact that Windows RT tablet.
Images of a prototype of this device have leaked recently showing Verizon branding and featuring a Lumia smartphone like pillow shape design and colorful polycarbonate bodies.
Windows RT is a version of Windows 8 designed to work on ARM processors. Unfortunately the Windows RT platform in incapable of running apps designed for the regular version of Windows and can only run apps from the Windows Store.
The Nokia Sirius is expected to be thinner and lighter than the Apple iPad, weighing just over a pound. The Nokia Sirius is expected to feature a 10.1 inch full (1080p) HD display with brightness booster for better outdoor visibility, 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, optional 4G LTE connectivity, 10 hours of battery life a 6 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front facing camera, a microHDMI port, a microUSB port and powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip with 2GB of RAM.
Nokia will offer an optional keyboard with the Sirius similar to the Microsoft Surface RT. However this keyboard will feature a built in battery to extend the battery life of the tablet. Other accessories are also planned at launch. The Nokia Sirius is expected to be unveiled at an official event in New York on September 26th to announce the tablet and it is expected to be priced like an iPad (starting from $499 for the most basic version).
