Android Device Manager arrives on some devices

Yesterday we told you about the Android Device Manager, which Google planned to release later this month. Now it looks like the first stage of Android Device Manager is bring pushed out to some Android device owners, even though the service itself is not yet live.

The Android Device Manager is a ‘find my phone’ service which will help users locate their lost devices on a map or by ringing at its highest volume. It also allows you to lock your screen or erase all your data in the case that your device is lost of stolen. The service is expected to be made available to all devices running Android 2.2 or higher.

You can check if you are among the lucky few who have received the update by heading to Settings > Security > Device Administrators and check if you find Android Device Manager as one of the available options. Those who have received the update should be running Google Play Services version 3.2 on their devices. If you have received the official update please leave us a comment below.

If you want to try installing the update manually without waiting for the official release, you can download it from here. However keep in mind that since the service is not live, you wont be able to do much after installing it.

[NOTE] This is an unofficial apk file, so please note that you are installing it at your own risk as there maybe security risks from installing unofficial system files.
