Leaked Windows Phone screenshots show notification center, improved multitasking and more

Microsoft is busy preparing Windows 8.1 which is the first update to their desktop platform since Windows 8 was released. However that doesn't mean they have stopped developing Windows Phone. While Windows Phone 8 brought several improvements to the Windows Phone 7 platform, it is still lacks some features available to iOS and Android users.

Today's leaked screenshots claim to show an early build of the next version of Windows Phone. The version appears to have been built on May 9th according to its (12084.WPMAIN(wpbldlab).20130509-1407) build number. It also features several test apps which Microsoft is known to include in development units.

However what's most interesting is the inclusion of a notification center. We are somewhat disappointed in the image which seems to have evolved from what we have already seen on Android and iOS rather than something new from Microsoft.

The Windows Phone Start Screen is built as a notification center itself and we would have rather seen Microsoft evolve what they have into something more usable rather than borrow an already used idea.

The other improvements are visible in the multitasking which allows apps to be individually closed and the calendar interface which now offers a weekly view. Additionally apps can be sorted by name and frequency. Other features include the ability to see unused apps (similar to iOS) and a reference to 'BLUE' in the newest version of HERE Drive+ which could mean that this could be Windows Phone 8.1 just like Windows Blue turned out to be Windows 8.1.

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that these screenshots are real as Microsoft's interface can be easily manipulated with Photoshop. Hopefully we will learn about the upcoming update to WIndows Phone 8 soon and we will be sure to keep you updated when we do.
