iWork for iCloud announced - Allows editing documents on Mac and Windows

Today Apple announced iWork for iCloud at the WWDC 2013 keynote, which allows you to view and edit your Pages, Keynote and Numbers documents on your web browser. iWork for iCloud aims to bring the best features of its desktop suite to the cloud, thus eliminating the need to store files on your computers and having your files stored directly on the cloud.

The demonstration during the keynote shows the experience of iWorks on iCloud to be smooth and fluid, almost resembling a desktop app rather than a web app. Additionally Apple is not picky about which web browser you use as iWorks on iCloud will work with Safari, Chrome, Firefox and yes, even Internet Explorer. However Apple did state that you will require Safari for the 'best' experience.

This isn't the first time that Apple has attempted to launch an online iWork suite, but this may be the right time for the company given the current popularity of iOS and iCloud. The demonstration even showed iWork for iCloud being used to edit Microsoft Office documents, which has been quite a process in the past.

If you are a developer registered for an Apple Developer subscription, you can get a Developer Preview of iWork for iCloud today. The final version of the suite will be available to the public sometime later this year.
