Nokia Lumia 925 officially announced

Nokia has officially announced the Nokia Lumia 925 which is the third flagship in Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 lineup alongside the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 928. The Lumia 925 which was previously codenamed Catwalk has a polycarbonate body with a metal rim around it offering beauty and class in a sleek frame.

The Lumia 925 features a 4.5 inch Super Sensitive touch display with a 768 by 1280 pixel resolution, an 8.7 megapixel PureView camera with dual LED flash capable of 1080p video capture, 16GB of internal storage, 4G LTE connectivity and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

However it manages to maintain the specs of its siblings while slimming down to a mere 8.5 mm and weighing in at only 139 grams. Nokia claims that the Lumia 925 offers the brighter OLED display to date which should work even better under direct sunlight and its its super sensitivity allows the display to be operated with gloves on.

Nokia has also made improvements to the camera unit which now features six-element lenses (a world first) and a 3200 ISO which provides amazing low light photos, eliminating the need for a Xenon flash which was reintroduced on the Lumia 928.

The Lumia 925 comes with wireless charging as well, but requires a separate snap-on cover due to the thin nature of the phone. Early adopters of the Lumia 920 will be quite frustrated to find the Lumia 925 offering the best of their device and more, in a thinner and lighter frame.

Nokia is also introducing a Smart Camera feature with the Lumia 925 which offers features like:

  • Best Shot - which allows you to select the best photo from 10 frames
  • Action Shot - which superimposes different frames on top of each other
  • Motion Blur - which allows you to blur out certain elements of a photo
  • Best Faces mode - which allows you to keep the best headshot from the collection of photos
  • Remove mode - which lets you remove unwanted element from a photo.
The Smart Camera app will be released for all Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices later in Summer. The Lumia 925 will also bring the best of Nokia's HERE mapping and navigation applications and Nokia Music.

The Nokia Lumia 925 will start shipping in June and will cost 469 EUR before taxes and subsidies. You can choose between the Black, White and Gray models. It will initially be available in China through China Mobile and China Unicom. Meanwhile Vodafone in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain will cover European customers. While T-Mobile will adopt the Lumia 925 as its flagship Windows Phone 8 device in the United States. Availability in other regions will be announced in the coming weeks.
