Google says Nexus 4 supply is a priority, will focus on Motorola for future device battery life and durability

Google LogoGoogle’s CEO Larry Page spent some time discussing issues related to Google during the conference call with investors after the quarterly results came out yesterday. One of the topics in discussion was the state of the Google Nexus 4 by LG: “Clearly there’s work to be done managing our supply better, and that is priority to our teams.”

Last week an LG executive stated that Google based their demand of the Nexus 4 on previous Nexus phones sales, thus underestimating how much people would want the new device. LG is now stated to have increased production to equate supple and demand by mid-February.

In regard to Motorola, it doesn’t look like Google is planning to keep the company completely autonomous as they portrayed during the purchase. It seems like Google is going to be more involved in the strategy of the company that it was previously believed according to Larry Page and the Google CFO.

Google’s CFO said that Motorola has a 12-18 month product roadmap when it was first purchased, and the Motorola RAZR M was the last device in that plan. Now Google is said to be working closely with Motorola in an attempt to solve two critical issues for smartphones – battery life and durability.

The first fruits of this labor may come in the form of the rumored X device which will be designed by Google and Motorola. This project is expected to be separate from Google’s Nexus lineup and will hopefully see the light during the upcoming Google I/O in May.

Is there room for a new X lineup from Motorola with Google’s commitment to their partners with the Nexus devices? Let us know what you think in the following comments section
